Monica San Juan led the Chattanooga Mocs on day one of the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta.

PUERTO VALLARTA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is tied for fifth after 18 holes of the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational. The ladies shot 302 at El Tigre Golf Club matching Fresno State. The Mocs and Bulldogs are one behind Kennesaw State in fourth at 301 and three clear of Grand Canyon in seventh.

Senior Monica San Juan was low today with a 1-over 73. That puts her just outside the top 10 in a tie for 11th. Kirsty Beckwith added 75 with Maddy McDanel and Rheagan Hall's 77s for the 302 total. Esme Hamilton had the drop score with 79.

The Mocs started a little slow at 4 over through the first three holes. They played the next six 1 under making the turn at 3 over. There was a stumble to start the back nine but a steady middle put the number at 9 over with three holes to play. The squad shot 5 over to card 11 over on the back side.

No. 10 Arizona leads with 286. Tennessee is one behind in second with Idaho in third at 298. The Wildcats' Yu-Sang Hou is the individual leader with a 4-under 68.

San Juan's 15 pars ties her season high also set in the Mason Rudolph Championships (2nd round) and last time out at UNF (1st).
Beckwith continues her solid play this spring. Her average in seven rounds since the calendar turned is 74.57. She made the season's turn at 80.00 over nine fall markers.
