BOX SCORE » Furman 2, Chattanooga 0
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Furman struck for a run in the bottom of the second on back-to-back doubles from Emily DeMonte and Mackense Greico to take a 1-0 lead.
DeMonte, the starting pitcher for the Paladins, shut down the Chattanooga offense for the entirety of the game. She scattered just three UTC singles over the full 7.0 innings and allowed just two runners to reach scoring position.
Halie Williamson led the second inning off with a walk before advancing to second on an
Amanda Beltran sacrifice bunt. UTC failed to drive her in after a groundout to third and foul out in left ended the threat.
It would not be until the sixth inning where Chattanooga landed another runner in scoring position.
Emma Sturdivant dropped in a single to right center with two outs and
Makenzi Grider on first. Grider reached second before being thrown out at the third trying to take the extra base for the final out of the inning.
Celie Hudson (7-6) provided yet another solid performance in the circle for the Mocs despite suffering the loss. She tossed 6.0 innings while allowing just two earned runs, six hits and one free pass. Furman belted a solo homer off Hudson in the bottom of the sixth to total the 2-0 final.
