Finley Stadium was buzzing with activity today with the 2019 Chattanooga Football Fan Fest, presented by Metro by T-Mobile. The Kids Clinic had a record turnout, as did the Scrappy's Wings Contest, while the Pro Panel was a hit and the on-field action was as exciting as always.
"It was a great turnout," stated UTC head coach
Rusty Wright. "Everyone seemed to have a good time and I was glad to our fans enjoying themselves and having an opportunity to be around the team."
The day started and ended with the fourth annual Scrappy's Wings Contest. The First Tennessee Pavilion was full of competitors in the largest field to date. Check out the winners from the tweet below.
Over 70 youth signed up for the 11
th annual FREE Kids Clinic prior to the team taking the field. Coach Wright and his staff, along with the majority of the student-athletes, put the participants through a variety of drills on the field. Below a photo gallery that includes all of the action.
Also prior to kickoff was the Mocs Club Pro Panel, featuring former Mocs in the NFL
Keionta Davis,
Corey Levin and
Tae Davis. Emceed by Jim Reynolds, the Voice of the Mocs, the Pro Panel drew a full house of Mocs Club members on the Pavilion overlooking the field.
The performance on the field did not disappoint, as the Mocs went through 14 periods of a regular practice before holding a 20-minute scrimmage. UTC got in 51 plays that were full of highlights.
Junior
Brandon Dowdell got things started with an interception on a pass attempt over the top. That was followd by a sack by freshman
Tavi McLean three plays later, and a TFL from freshman
Ben Brewton after that.
The offense got the crowd on its feet when senior linebacker
Tyrell Price ran over a defender in a 13-yard carry. Price would lead the offense with 12 carries for 64 yards on the day.
Senior
Nick Tiano had a nice pass to freshman
T.J. Horton for 34 yards down to the 2-yards line. That set up freshman
Sean McMinn's two-yard dive for the only touchdown of the scrimmage.
Senior Tristian Mann had two sacks on the day, while junior
Jordan Jones broke up a pair of passes. Junior
Jacob Webster caught two passes for 16 yards, while sophomore
Jeffrey Wood II ran eight times for 26 yards.
UTC's traveling road show resumes on Tuesday, April 2, with the eighth practice of the spring. The Mocs are Ridgeland High School this week, with Tuesday's session to start at 3:30 p.m. (E.D.T.).
