Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mocs Top Mercer 4-3

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team gutted out a 4-3 win at Mercer today.  The Mocs snapped a six-match slide to improve to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play.  The Bears fell to 10-10 on the year and 2-3 in league duals.

Senior Caroline Hall stepped her game up with wins in singles and doubles.  Her three-set comeback victory at No. 3 singles clinched the team win for the Mocs.

"This was a huge win for the program," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper.  "With a few girls out, it has been tough to put together four points. I couldn't be more proud of this team's fight."

The Mocs swept the opening doubles matches.  Senior Delaney Edwards and sophomore Emma Van Hee scored a 6-2 win over Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers at No. 1.  Edwards and Van Hee are 8-6 at No. 1 in the spring.

That win was followed by sophomore Bogdana Zaporozhets and freshman Polina Goloputova defeating Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert 6-3 at No. 2.  It is the second-straight win at No. 2 for this duo.

Hall and fellow senior Annie Tarwater also won their second in a row at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory over Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet.

Mercer bounced back in singles and quickly tied the score with a straight-set win at No. 5.  Zaporozhets snapped her six-match slide with a (6-3, 6-0) win over Schepers at No. 4.  Goloputova also ended her seven-match losing streak with a (6-3, 6-4) win over Roquebert.

Mercer evened the score at 3-3 with wins at No. 6 and No. 1, before Hall closed it out against Hollyfield.  After dropping the first set 6-3, she only lost three games the rest of the way (3-6, 6-3, 3-0).  That gave Hall a 6-1 mark at No. 3.

The Mocs close out the 2019 regular season with four straight home matches.  Up next for Chattanooga is a visit from UNCG at the UTC Tennis Center on April 6.
