Former Moc graduated with honors and a 4.0 GPA in Accounting in May.
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Jake Huffine earned a spot on the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team this week. Huffine, a standout wrestler for the Mocs, carried a 4.0 grade-point-average throughout his academic career and recently graduated with honors with a degree in Accounting.
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-District includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
"Jake Huffine is everything you want in a student-athlete," stated UTC head coach Kyle Ruschell. "He carries himself in a first-class manner and does everything you ask of him, on and off the mat. He is an outstanding representative of our program and we are proud of all of his accomplishments."Â
Huffine entered the starting lineup at 133 pounds for the first time in 2018-19. He posted a 20-15 overall record, including a third place finish at the SoCon Championships. He also had a runner-up showing at the Cougar Clash and placed sixth at the Wolfpack Open.Â
Huffine was named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring a win in the dual against No. 21 North Carolina on Nov. 11. He earned both SoCon Wrestler and Student-Athlete of the Week honors following wins in the duals at Edinboro and Ohio in December.  Â
In January, Huffine became just the fourth wrestler to earn UTC's Dayle May Award, given to the male and female seniors with the top overall GPA among the graduating student-athletes. Others from the wrestling program to win this honor include John Lampe (2016), Pat Murphy (1983) and Jim Morgan (1960).Â
Three other wrestlers have earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in school history, including John Lampe (2016), Jared Johnson (2016) and Jason McCroskey (2011). Huffine now has a chance to become the first CoSIDA Academic All-American at UTC. That team will be announced in June.Â
