Mueller Gets Equalizer in Tie with APSU

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman Kendra Mueller wasted no time getting her first collegiate goal. Her equalizer sent the match into overtime and ended in a 1-1 tie against Austin Peay in the season opener for both teams.

Mueller's shot in the 87th minute tied the match, sending the first of the year into extra time. Jordan Mueller nearly had the game winner in the final moments of the second overtime. She picked up a pass from the side in a crowd and headed it toward the goal. Austin Peay's keeper was able to get a hand on it and push it over the net.

The game started late due to a weather delay, but the Govs got on the board early with a goal from Katie Kenward in the ninth minute on a pass from Ashley Whitaker. Austin Peay outshot the Mocs 10-6 with Mocs getting two shots in the final overtime period.

Chattanooga keeper Ashton Shields had four saves with one goal allowed in 100 minutes in the net. The Govs' keeper Mary Parker Powell had identical stats.

Six Chattanooga players each had a shot in the match with five on goal. Austin Peay's Claire Larose took four shots with two on goal. Anna McPhie added three shots with two on goal and Kenward added a pair of chances.

The Mocs did not allow Austin Peay a single shot in the second overtime period and had two while each had one in the first extra time period.
