Luehrs Earns Athletics Department Promotion

With the start of the new semester, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton announced a recent promotion among his executive staff.  Beth Luehrs is now the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Affairs.

Luehrs is beginning her third year in the UTC Athletics Department this month, originally hired as the Director of Business Affairs in January of 2018.

"Beth has done an outstanding job managing our budget and finances," stated Wharton.  "She has implemented policies and procedures that help us maintain our fiscal responsibility to the University, and has increased communication on financial matters with all of our coaches and senior staff."

In her role, Luehrs oversees the business operations of a 16-sport NCAA Division I athletics program. That includes 14 additional support areas, affecting more than 300 student-athletes.  She is also the athletics department liaison for Human Resources and oversees the athletics administrative assistants.

Luehrs transitioned to athletics from the College of Business where she joined campus in March 2017. That came after 12 years with Unum where she was Director, Financial Analyst for the Chattanooga-based Fortune 500 insurance company.

She specialized in accounting and human resources at Unum. Luehrs also has prior experience in public accounting, internal controls, internal audit and executive compensation. Community minded, she's served on several not-for-profit boards in the area.

The Chattanooga native went to GPS (Girls Preparatory School) before attending UTC. She earned her Bachelor's in Business Administration with an Accounting concentration in May 1999.  Beth earned her Master's of Business Administration in December 2019.

Beth and her husband John are proud parents of two daughters, Sterling and Tallulah. The family resides in north Chattanooga.
