CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs announced the appointment of
Jonathan Susman as the new Executive Director of McKenzie Arena Thursday morning. Susman brings a dynamic background in event leadership and a strong track record of bringing top-tier entertainment to the region's premier multi-purpose event venue
Â
Susman most recently served as Director of Special Events and Programming for Chattanooga's Parks & Outdoors Department, where he was instrumental in producing the Moon River Music Festival. His collaborative style and operational expertise have made him a key figure in Chattanooga's event scene.
Â
"We're excited to welcome Jonathan to the Mocs family," said
Mark Wharton, Vice Chancellor for Athletics. "His passion for entertainment, community connection and experience aligns with our vision for McKenzie Arena as the region's hub for major events. We look forward to his leadership and expertise taking full advantage of all we have to offer."
Â
Susman's position leads efforts to secure high-profile concerts, touring productions and live entertainment that energize the Chattanooga market. His deep network of partners and civic relationships as well as experience in event logistics and ability to attract a diverse calendar of events that include concerts, comedy acts, family shows, sporting events, expos and regional festivals enhances both behind-the-scenes production and fan-facing experience.
Â
McKenzie Arena, nicknamed "The Roundhouse", is the region's most versatile large-scale venue. It has housed more than 30 conference championship basketball squads between the Mocs men's and women's basketball programs. With capacity of more than 11,000 guests, the Roundhouse has hosted legendary acts like Elton John, Billy Joel, Shania Twain and Maroon 5, alongside family shows, sporting events, and community functions.
Â
Over the past year, Nate Bartgatze packed the house while Disney on Ice is returning in the upcoming months. Susman's position goes far beyond booking concerts. His ability to identify untapped markets and creating original programming such as local cultural festivals, themed community nights, etc., ensures the arena stays relevant and financially sustainable year-round.
Â
"McKenzie Arena is more than a venue—it's a gathering place where memories are made," Susman noted. "I'm excited to join the Chattanooga Mocs in growing this special community space into a regional base for world-class entertainment. We're ready to get to work building unforgettable experiences for fans and families across the region."
