The Mocs on Day 2 of the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic.

Doubles Look Sharp on Second Day of Baras

Junior Jacob Marshall and freshman Quinten Nevenhoven are 4-0 in fall doubles play.
The doubles teams shined for the Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis squad on the second day of action of the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic.  The Mocs won four of five doubles matches against Troy University in the round robin event at the UTC Tennis Center.

"Day2 of the UTC-Steve Baras Invite is in the books and there were some outstanding battles between two very deep teams," stated UTC head coach Chuck Merzbacher.  "The guys came out strong in doubles. There were some close hard fought singles matches that we got, and a couple we didn't, but I loved the way we competed and played.

Senior Turner Voges and sophomore Simon Labbe were the featured ESPN+ match on Court 1.  They scored a 6-2 win over Nicolas Rodriguez and Manuel Bernard.  It was the sixth win in a row for the UTC duo as they moved to 6-1 in fall action.

Sophomore Tomas Rodriguez and freshman Jeffery Dewald beat Christopher Tasker and Amer Bedwan 6-3, while junior Jacob Marshall and sophomore Quinten Nevenhoven downed Antonio Selma and Andy Romero 6-2.  Dewald and Rodriguez have won two in a row and are now 3-2 on the year.  Marshall and Nevenhoven remained unbeaten at 4-0.

Sophomore Kerim Hyatt and freshman Peyton Gatti teamed up for a 6-2 win over Francisco Erramuspe and Vito Llinares.  That snapped at three match slide for the Mocs pair.

Chattanooga split the 10 singles bouts.  Voges opened with a (7-6 (9), 6-1) win over Rodriguez in the featured match on ESPN+.  Labbe got his first win as a Moc, posting a three-set victory over Bernard (5-7, 6-1, 6-4).

Rodriguez, Hyatt and junior Luke Plaisted also scored wins today.  Rodriguez defeated Tasker in straight-sets (6-3, 6-1), while Hyatt won in three sets over Erramuspe (7-5, 4-6, 6-1).  Plaisted outlasted Joaquin Bianchi in a three-set marathon (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).

"This has been a very physical tournament," added Merzbacher.  "It's been great to be on our home courts and get this type of play."

The Mocs and Trojans wrap up play on Sunday, beginning with doubles at 10:00 a.m. (E.D.T.).  Reminder that spectators are not allowed for the event, but you can follow along with live scoring and ESPN+ links on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
