Below are excerpts from today's press conference with photos. Today's media availability included remarks from head coach
Rusty Wright, senior quarterback
Drayton Arnold and senior defensive back
Jordan Jones.
Opening Statement Thanking the Campus Leadership:
"First off, I want to thank (UTC Chancellor) Dr. Angle and the executive leadership team on campus, Dr. Chris Smith, Yasmine Key, our training staff, all of those folks gave us the opportunity to get to this point and there is a lot of hard ward that goes into it. It does not go unnoticed. We are very appreciative.
"We are trying to do our best to get ourselves there on Friday. It has been a little bit different this week than it has the past couple. We are looking forward to it and are excited about having the opportunity to play a college football game."
On Drayton Arnold Starting at Quarterback
"I just want him to sun the show. I want him to relax and play. Even though it is only one game, he has to understand, he's got it. Just go. You are going to make a mistake and that is fine. We will have to live with it and correct it and move on. He has to keep those guys up and control the offense and manage the game for us."
Jordan Jones - Senior DB
On what it feels like to get a chance to play:
"It feels amazing. Just to have the opportunity to get back in pads and to be around the guys feels amazing right now. All of the jitters are coming back. Even if it is just one game, it feels like we have the whole season ahead of us.
Is there a different mentality having just one game:
"It is the same mentality. Our team is full of a bunch of mature guys who know how to handle the moment. Even thought it is one game, we are preparing like we have the whole season ahead of us."
Drayton Arnold – Senior QB
Thoughts on finally getting the opportunity to play:
"It is exciting. I am ready to get going and to get playing. We have been going at it now for about 3-4 weeks, so to be able to finally sit here and prepare for a game is definitely exciting."
On the advantages that may carry forward by not playing in the fall:
"As a team, we were ready to play this year. For the freshmen guys and the guys that are a little bit younger, this year could be big for them. To work out for another 6-7 months and get that year under their belt, get stronger and faster, is definitely good for them."
