Sophomore Rachel Thompson and the Chattanooga Mocs hit the links this week at the Terrier Intercollegiate.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team takes its third trip to the tee this fall opening play Monday at the Terrier Intercollegiate. A modest field of five teams are gathered to take on the Country Club of Spartanburg.
The Mocs posted solid individual finishes in the opening two events. Breatriz Barrios (T16) and Rachel Thompson (T20) became the first newcomer pair to turn in top 20 finishes in the season opener. That came at the Hoover Invitational.
Esme Hamilton followed that with her third career top 10 the next time out in Arkansas. Barrios nearly joined her tying for 11th. The Mocs final round 292 is their top 18-hole score so far in 2020-21.
Barrios' top 20s in her first two career outings joins select company in program history. The last time a freshman opened her career with back-to-back top 20s? Emma de Groot '11 and Christine Wolf '11 in the inaugural 2007-08 campaign.
Wolf, now a stalwart on the Ladies European Tour, began her career with three straight top 20s (T5, T13, T11). de Groot was runner-up in her first three and top 10 in nine straight winning twice. She finished in the top 20 in 10 of 11 that first season including tying for 17th at the NCAA East Regionals.
The tournament starts with 36 holes Monday with teams opening off No. 1 and 10 between 9-10 a.m. Each squad plays together in twos or threesomes for Mondays 36-hole day along with Tuesday's final 18. Links to stats/notes and live scoring are above.
