Sophomore Dorota Zalewska led the Chattanooga Mocs over the opening 18 holes of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational.

GREENSBORO, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs are tied for fifth after 18 holes of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational. The Mocs and South Alabama each turned in 305 in the first round of the spring portion of our show.

Sophomore Dorota Zalewska had the low 18-hole total for the ladies with a 3-over 75. That's tied for 14th overall, one shot better than Kirsty Beckwith's 76. Rheagan Hall and Esme Hamilton are another shot back with 77s, while Maddy McDanel had the drop score with 83.

It was a tough day for scoring. Only seven players in the field played par or better led by Thao My Nguyen of UNCW. She shot 3-under 69 for a two-stroke lead over a quarter at 71. Mercer and Auburn are tied for the team lead at 293 with East Carolina and UNCW tied for third, two shots ahead of the Mocs at 303.

The second round resumes Saturday morning on the Landing at Reynolds Lake Oconee.

Zalewska is second in the field in par 5 scoring (-2), while Beckwith is tied for third on the par 3s (-1).
The Mocs were 1 over on the counting cards over the course's par 3s, a 3.08 scoring average on the short holes. That's the fourth time the squad played 1 over or better for 18 holes on par 3s with a low of 2 under in the opening round at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.
The Greensboro area received nearly three inches of rain leading into the competition. The weather forced an hour delay and a format change to a shotgun start.
