The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team may have dropped today's dual match 4-1 at No. 26 Tennessee, but the Mocs scored a huge win at No. 1 doubles. 

Junior Emma Van Hee and sophomore Caroline Gibbens posted a 6-4 win over Tennessee's No. 8-ranked duo of Kaitlin Staines and Tenika McGiffin.  That clinched the doubles point for the Mocs, giving UTC a 1-0 lead.

Junior Bodgana Zaporozhets and freshman Jessie Young had the other doubles win at No. 2 for Chattanooga.  They beat UT's Johanna Silva and Rebeka Mertena 6-1. 

"Winning the doubles point was huge for our program," stated head coach Chad Camper. "Emma and Caroline had to play great tennis to be successful. Although we lost the match, with this young team we can do great things."
 
UTC could not keep that momentum in singles action.  Freshman Callie Billman won her first set at No. 6, but the Lady Vols took the first four matches in straight sets.  Billman and Van Hee's matches at No. 5 and No. 6 went unfinished once the team result was clinched.    
 
Van Hee and Gibbens improved to 3-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Zaporozhets and Young move to 7-0 at No. 2. 
 
The Mocs are 5-3 overall, and Tennessee improves to 9-1.  UTC visits MTSU tomorrow to take on the Blue Raiders at Noon (E.S.T.) in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  A link for live scoring for that one is on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
