
Broling Qualifies for Final; Thompson All-Freshman

LEXINGTON, Va. --- Chattanooga junior Ashlynd Broling advanced to the Sunday finals in the women's Mile run and Madelyn Thompson was named to the All-Freshman Team in the long jump. Also on Day One, five personal records were set.
Broling qualified for her first-ever final in the Mile placing 12th overall with a time of 5:12.74, just slightly off her PR. Her race will be at 12:20 p.m.
Freshman Madelyn Thompson earned all-freshman honors with her 5.00 meter long jump and finished the hurdles with a PR time of 9.37. Freshman McKenzie Williamson set PRs in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.87 and the 200 meter dash at 26.13, improving with each meet this season.
Sage Davis bested her previous top time in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.03 and Sydney Cansler, in just her second collegiate 800 meter, posted her top mark in the race.
Senior Hannah Caldwell, running in her final indoor championships, just missed her PR in the 3000m run by less than two seconds at 10:35.75.
The Mocs DMR team scored four points for UTC on the opening day placing fifth and posting a season-best time at 12:27.05. Ashlynd Broling led the team off with the 1200 meter followed by Katie Coker in the 400m. Abby Bateman was the third leg for the Mocs, gaining a place, in the 800 meter and Nicole Buehrle gained another spot in the anchor leg 1600 meters.
The Mocs return to the track Sunday with the Mile final, the 5000 meter and the 4x400 meter relay. Action gets started at 12:20 p.m. and live stats are available online at GoMocs.com.
