University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach
Rusty Wright announced the addition of five student-athletes on National Signing Day today. This group joins the 14 who signed in the early period on December 18, 2019.
All five of today's additions have three-star ratings from 247Sports.com. That gives UTC a total of seven three-star recruits in this class, the most in one haul in school history.
The Mocs also kept their academic standards moving in the right direction. Coming off a program record 2.83 team GPA in the fall, Wright set a new mark with 11 signees who earned an academic honor during their prep careers. That bested the previous high of 10 he set with his first class in 2019.
Among the newest Mocs are two receivers, an offensive lineman, defensive lineman and linebacker. Three hail from Georgia, and one each from Alabama and North Carolina.
"We are really excited about this class as a whole and are very fortunate to have the quality of individuals sign with us today," stated head coach
Rusty Wright. "Our staff has worked hard throughout the recruiting process, and you can see that pay off with this 19-member class."
Bo Spearman (6-0, 210) was the first on board this morning. He is a linebacker from Shades Valley High School, just outside of Birmingham, Ala. Also on the defensive side of the ball is
Quay Wiggles (6-3, 255), an all-state defensive lineman from Mays High School in Atlanta.
Shamar Sandgren (6-1, 175) and
Jamoi Mayes (5-11, 190) are the two receivers. Sandgren is from Islands High School in Savannah, Ga., while Mayes prepped at Griffin (Ga.) High School.
Ja'Ny Alston (6-6, 255) is an offensive lineman from Jireh Prep in Asheville, N.C. He is originally from Carrboro, N.C.
All totaled, the Mocs have added 12 offensive players, six defensive standouts and one athlete who could go either way. There are three transfers on the list and seven of the 19 are already enrolled at UTC.
The Mocs now turn their attention to spring practice, which begins on Monday, March 2. Be sure to save-the-date for
Fan Fest 2020 on Saturday, April 4, at Scrappy Moore Field. Season tickets start at just $40 for home side general admission and are on sale now by
