The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at Tennessee Tech today. The Mocs fall to 11-4 with the loss, while the defending Ohio Valley Conference Champions improved to 4-4.
"I have to give Tennessee Tech credit, they played well and competed well," stated UTC head coach Chuck Merzbacher. "We had two really challenging road matches back to back, but that's the spring dual season. Getting road tough is part of getting better.
The Golden Eagles swept the two doubles matches for the opening point, then took four of the six singles bouts.
Senior Niklas Gerdes scored a point at No. 1 when Evzen Holis was forced to retire at No. 1. Sophomore Tomas Rodriguez had the other win for the Mocs at No. 2.
Up next for Chattanooga is a visit from Toledo on Friday, March 6. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. at the UTC Tennis Center.
"We arelooking forward to our upcoming home match vs Toledo, and then it's on to three spring break matches which includes Mercer, North Florida, and Kennesaw St. all on the road," added Merzbacher. "This is where the fun begins."
