SCHEDULE | ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf program tees off next Monday at its own Scenic City Collegiate. The 10-team field tackles the famed Honors Course in suburban Ooltewah.

The two-day, 54-hole event starts with 36-hole shotgun start at 8 a.m., Monday. It ends with a final 18 Tuesday with the final hole(s) televised on ESPN3. The format makes it interesting as well considering social distancing and COVID precautions.

The usual collegiate format is a 5-person unit with the top four scores counting while playing with two other institutions. In an effort to limit impact on teams, each squad starts six student-athletes with four score counted to the team tally. They'll play together in two threesomes. All 10 squads are staying on grounds at the Honors Course in their own housing to further limit exposure between groups.

The entire Mocs roster is made up of returnees from 2019-20. The 6-man starting lineup includes A.J. Lintunen, Oliver Simonsen, Connor Nolan, Leon Bader, Dominic Jones and Matt Smith. Moritz Lammel is playing as an individual.

3 Notes to Know
  • This is the first collegiate event played at the Honors since the 2010 NCAA Championships. It previously hosted the 2006 Scenic City Invitational won by Charlotte with a 26-over par 890.
  • Simonsen is rather familiar with the Honors Course. His father, Henrik, is the Director of Golf there.
  • Dalton State, one of the premier NAIA programs in the nation, is led by former Mocs star Ben Rickett. Rickett was a part of three SoCon Championships (2007-09) and helped lead the 2009 squad to its first NCAA Championships appearance.
