BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's indoor track and field team opened the season at the Samford Invitational with multiple Top 10 finishes at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
"We had a good start to our indoor season with several top 10 results," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "Several of our freshmen did outstanding in their first college meet."
Â
The Mocs fielded a team of mostly freshmen and juniors with a pair of sophomores at the season-opening event.
Â
McKenzie Williamson set a PR in the 60 meter Dash with a time of 8.00, placing third in her heat and placed eighth overall in the 200 meter Dash with a time of 26.84, just tenths of a second off her previous best time.
Â
The long jump featured junior Madelyn Thomson who qualified for the finals and posted a distance of 4.83 meters, placing ninth overall. She led off the Mocs' 4x400 meter relay team A that finished fourth overall.
Â
"Madelyn had a great day," Meyer said. "Julianna McReynolds also raced very well. She ran smart in both the Mile and 800, kicking people down. Newcomer Ashtyn Hagood opened everyone's eyes with a great mile right behind Julianna. Emmy Davis ran a very steady race and was impressive."
Â
McReynolds and Hagood finished 1-2 in the Mile heat. McReynolds was seventh overall with a time of 5:17.02 and Hagood was right behind her in eighth at 5:17.73. McReynolds was ninth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:27.51.
Â
Emmy Davis was 10th overall for the Mocs and second in her heat in the 800 meter at 2:28.48. Freshman Brooke Rieves was third in her heat with a time of 2:31.89.
Â
After a near two-year layoff after suffering an injury last year, Faith Brown closed very hard to finish ninth in the 3000 meter Run. She covered the distance in a time of 11:12.16, placing ninth overall.
Â
"Our relays team finishing 3-4 was a great ending to the day," Meyer said.
Â
The Mocs Relay Team B placed third with a time of 4:28.66.
Â
The Chattanooga cross country team will run at the Belmont Invitational Sunday and the indoor team will return to Birmingham February 12 for the Samford Invite #2.
