CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams will head to Percy Warner Park in Nashville Sunday afternoon for the Belmont Invitational.
Â
"It will be exciting to see the kids run a spring cross country race," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "We will be competing with our track distance runners only. This is a great early season race to help the kids develop the strength for the upcoming track season.
Â
The Mocs who had the SoCon Championships in the fall, had just one meet. This will be the first of two and feature in-state foes Belmont, Vanderbilt, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State.
Â
"These distance kids would much rather race outside than do a 5K on a 200 meter indoor track," Meyer said. "Plus with cross country outside, being such a low risk COVID sport, it's a great way to compete with minimal risk to the athletes.
Â
Because of COVID-19 protocol, spectators will not be permitted.
Â
"The Percy Warner course is a very challenging course and one that rewards patience," Meyer said. "The kids will definitely benefit with 'sticking to the plan' on this course.
Â
Results will be posted immediately following competition. The women's 5K will begin at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time with the men to follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. Nashville is in the Central Time Zone.
