CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Louisville Saturday morning for the 20th annual Louisville Cross Country Classic at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
Â
"Louisville is probably the favorite race of the season for many of our kids," Meyer said. "It is a very fast course with the best competition we will face all season. National powers Michigan, Wisconsin, MTSU, Marquette, and West Virgina will be there and also conference foes, ETSU, Samford, and UNCG."
Â
The Mocs will compete in the Gold Division with the men's 8K race starting at 9:30 a.m. and the women 5-kilometer to follow at 10:15.
Â
The men will compete against 34 teams while the women's race has 42. Included in the lineup against the Mocs are former SoCon foe Appalachain State, current members East Tennessee State and UNCG, along with DePaul, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), MTSU, South Alabama, UT Martin, UNC Asheville, and Wisconsin. The women will also run against Mississippi State and Xavier.
Â
"The weather is a little cooler and with the caliber of competition, you cannot help but run fast," Meyer said. "Many of the kids will produce personal best 5K and 8K times at this meet. We have had some very good workouts leading into this meet and the kids have gotten their legs back under them a little bit, so we are poised to have a great effort at this race."
Â
There are three divisions in the Classic with the Mocs in Gold, followed by the Blue then Silver.
Â
Results will be available following the race at GoMocs.com.
