Postgame Quotes

Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Overall statement after 55-13 win over Samford.
"We played like a football team, for the first time all year we played like a team. That's because for the past two weeks we've done things better day to day and consistently made our way into being a better football team. I don't know how I could have a bigger smile on my face, it's always great to get on the road and win because it's a big deal. These kids and coaches have put in a lot of work this week and it paid off for them."

On the effectiveness to the ground game.
"Huge, I think at half time we had the ball for 20 minutes and had a bunch of quick scores for a little bit, that's huge because you have to be able to control the tempo and keep the defense as fresh as you can. Thankfully, we were making plays defensively."

On Rashaun Freeman's pick-six.
"No, I thought they were going to throw it to three on the bubble, but they threw it to two on the bubble and I just thought good luck to you. It was awesome because the first down was huge because they tried to run inside zone, and we stopped it and made a play."

Cole Copeland, Jr.-QB
On the defense's effort.
"I mean everywhere, these guys don't really have a weakness, the secondary is unbelievable. Obviously the pass rush is unbelievable, the linebacker group is full grasp. It is definitely difficult going against them everyday and it makes us better as team."

On Ailym Ford's performance.
"Yeah, a big day for him. He's had to overcome a lot and he's a work horse and never complains. He just works as hard as he can. He's hard to tackle and he runs hard, and he runs angry. I always enjoy working with him."

Rashaun Freeman, Sr.-DB
On the pick-six.
"I saw them line up and I know some of their tendencies, they like to throw screen passes and we ran a call where I knew I could be more aggressive. I saw the quarterback turn and played ball and broke on it, I was there to make the interception."

On knowing the defensive back group needed to perform today.
"We came into the game knowing what type of offense they had and how they like to play. We knew that if we could get them off their game and make them play our style of ball, we would be successful."

Ailym Ford, So.-RB
On overcoming last year's injury and returning to the same place it occurred.
"It's the heart about it.. you've got to have heart to overcome certain situations and I get that from my team, my coaches and by having the will to come back over here and overcome. Just the thought of being in the same place, on the same exact field and being around these guys motivates me to overcome certain situations."

Jay Person, So.-LB
On the defense forcing four turnovers today.
"Very satisfying, hard work pays off and we have been working on this for a long time and the results are showing."
