LEXINGTON, Va. --- Chattanooga freshmen
Emma Russum and
Aaron Isbell were named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team at the conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Lexington Golf and Country Club.
Â
"Emma and Aaron had great races today," Mocs head coach
Andy Meyer said. "They looked the best they have all season. Both were rewarded with the conference all-freshman team.
Â
"They both executed the race plan perfectly and got stronger as the race progressed. They both work so hard and are deserving of all the success."
Â
Lesley Green and
Justine Glass paced the women's team to a fifth place finish ahead of Wofford and Western Carolina. Green placed 20
th and was followed immediately by Glass who finished 21
st.
Â
Russum was the third Chattanooga runner across the line with
Ashtyn Hagood next and
Faith Brown the fifth scoring runner for the Mocs.
Â
"Our girls team competed hard," Meyer said. "The course was wet, of course, with slick spots which slowed everyone down.
Â
"Lesley, Emma and Justine all had solid runs but then we had a gap that hurt us from a team standpoint Ashtyn and Faith did their best to fill that drought. We ran one senior and the rest of the girls were freshman or sophomores and our youth showed today."
Â
In the men's 8-kilometer race,
Jonathan Boyd was the top Chattanooga runner with
Ryan Phillips next across the line for the Mocs.
Â
Isbell was the third UTC runner to finish followed by
Eammon O'Bryant and
Lane Hollis as the fifth scoring runner.
Â
"For the guys Jonathan and Ryan were our usual rocks then we had three true freshmen in Aaron, Eammon and Lane right behind them," Meyer said. "Everyone gained places throughout the race and Eric had his best race of the year.
Â
"The kids all had a great day of learning experience and what it takes to compete in our conference," Meyer added. "Everyone learned today we all much more training needed yet ahead of us."

The Mocs will spend the
