Postgame Quotes

Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Overall thoughts after win over Wofford.
"I was kind of just proud of how these guys, you know, we had a crazy week because they had Tuesday off because of the NCAA rule we had to follow. We had to do some things differently on Sunday and Monday. And I thought we had a pretty decent practice on Wednesday. Thursday wasn't bad. You know? We're short two starters today. Reggie [Henderson] didn't make the trip. Harrison [Moon] didn't make the trip. But just proud of how these guys how they handled themselves. Because it's, it's hard to go on the road. And I don't care what anybody's record is, I mean, it is [hard]. We went out there and did the things we were supposed to do today."

On slow start and faster finish.
"It was a slow start, in a weird way. I mean, that's the thing, we got way too many 15 yard penalties. We've got to stop doing that. We just went out there and played. The offense did what they were supposed to do. They just went out there and played like we were capable of playing. It wasn't pretty, but I don't think we turned the ball over on offense. And I know if we did that, we'd have an opportunity no matter what it looked like down here."

On the teaming starting to gel at the right time.
"This team has seemingly taken the strides that you've been really kind of wanting to see over the past month or so. Just a group that's doing things like they're supposed to be doing it, you know, we practice better last month or so that's led to better playing. And we're understanding everybody's got a role. They're kind of fitting into it and no matter what it may be, the biggest thing is we've just stopped looking at results and we just go out and play."

Cole Copeland, Jr.-QB
On the ground attack paving the way today.
"The run game got going. What I love about our offensive line and our running back group, as the game goes on, you start seeing them bust eight yards a carry, ten yards a carry. Once we get the lead, those guys hold the lead well. It's not fun getting hit in the mouth every play."

On moving forward and controlling own destiny.
"We're not too focused on that. We're focused on next week. We have Mercer and that's where our focus is."

Brandon Dowdell, Sr.-DB
On being yourself on the field.
"It's just bringing that intensity, that competition, that personality to the game. I just go out there and play me and the rest take cares of itself."

On the team's dynamic.
"It's very beneficial because no one is selfish. It's all understanding their role and knowing it's a team and everyone has a role. You just have to accept the fact and go out there and compete and do your job. Be a great teammate and hold each other accountable. That's what we pride ourselves on."

Ailym Ford, So.-RB
On what the team needs to do to keep things rolling.
"Work on our consistency. We need to keep on learning how to control the football game and not hurt ourselves. We just need to focus on what's now and not what's ahead."

Jay Person, So.-LB
On the defensive unit coming together.
"It's doing the little things. We're trying to do something. We knew they were a good team so we knew we had to do all the little things. It was just us executing on defense."
