STATS PERFORM RELEASE
Â
CHATTANOOGA---Two more All-America teams were announced recently with the Chattanooga Mocs football program earning five total mentions among three standouts. Defensive back Brandon Dowdell joins defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell and offensive lineman Cole Strange on the program's distinguished list of All-Americans.
Â
Maxwell and Strange claimed coveted first team picks on the Stats Perform FCS All-America team. The duo led a dominant effort upfront on both sides of the ball for the Mocs. The offensive line ranked among the nation's leaders in sacks allowed, tying the school record with just nine, and tackles for loss allowed (4.0 per game). That ranked fourth and 12th, respectively, in the country while leading the Southern Conference. Strange recorded 40 pancake blocks during the campaign.
Â
The defensive front was equally impressive. Their sack (2.82 per game) and TFL (6.9) totals were the SoCon's best and top 20 nationally. Maxwell's numbers as an interior defensive lineman were staggering with 11.0 sacks and 14.5 TFLs. Those came as teams refused to throw on the unit in the second half of the season while not having success on the ground either. More on that later.
Â
The AP also released its All-America teams. Dowdell and Maxwell were second team picks there with Strange placed on the third team. Strange was also first team on HERO Sports All-America team announced last week. Maxwell was listed on the second team with Ailym Ford honored on the sophomore listing.
Â
Dowdell tied for the team lead with fellow safety Jerrell Lawson with five. They led a secondary that led the nation in interception rate (.054). That stat (INTs/Pass Att.) is especially important considering teams rarely chose to throw against the Mocs despite lack of success against the running game.
Â
There are still teams yet to be announced. The Mocs await word on the AFCA, Phil Steele and Walter Camp All-America squads among others. Click on the link above for the full Stats Perform team.

Notes
- Dowdell is the first Mocs DB to be named on the first two teams since safety Chris Camacho was second team on the Sports Network (now Stats Perform) list in 2007. Current Director of Football Ops Kadeem Wise was third team in 2013 per College Sports Madness.
- The two first team picks are a first for the program on the Stats Perform platform. Maxwell and Strange are the eighth and ninth Mocs to earn first team status per that organization which authors one of the two major FCS polls each week alongside the AFCA's Coaches Poll.
- Three All-Americans scattered among the first and second teams of various associations is a first since 2016: DE Keionta Davis (3 first/2 seconds), OL Corey Levin (1/3) and LB Nakevion Leslie (0/1).
