Mocs Presser - Quotes, Videos & Photos

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team is on the road this weekend at The Citadel.  The 18th-ranked Mocs face the Bulldogs on Saturday, March 6.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

The Mocs are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in SoCon action after Saturday's 24-13 win over No. 11 Wofford.  The Citadel is 0-5 overall and 1-0 in league play following Saturday's 42-28 loss at Mercer.  Below are excerpts from today's press conference from head coach Rusty Wright.  The video is in the player at the top of the page.

On challenge of playing The Citadel:
"You have to play the triple option, it's something we don't see week in and week out. It's hard to simulate in practice, the speed of it. You only get so many possessions offensively. You've got to make use of them. In 2019, they had the ball for about 40 minutes and we're trying to figure out a way to score there at the end. And it just makes it for a long day. It's hard and it's physical football game."

On his confidence in the defense:
"As long as they go and play hard and our eyes are in the right spot, and we tackle people… I didn't know if we could tackle anybody honestly, because we haven't done it very much. Those guys have a lot of confidence in what they're doing. I have confidence in what we're trying to get done because we've played pretty well defensively the last few times we've been out with that group."

On keys to victory on defense:
"On fourth down, they are going to go for it in certain situations. We've got to find a way to win first down, get them off schedule. That's the largest problem, it's going to be a bunch of third and shorts. You've got to keep them out of third and one or third and two. That's what we've got to try and overcome."

On the defensive line:
"[Devonnsha Maxwell] is a good football player in this league. He works hard at it. He's got a bright future ahead of him for sure. John Prince, true freshman that doesn't play like a true freshman…. got his first college sack Saturday. Jay Person is finally starting to figure out what he's doing over there. We played a couple guys at nose guard. We keep building some depth in that area. If you can roll six, seven, eight guys in that area, it makes it really hard… especially when they're good players and they play hard. That's where you've got to win football games. This league is a running league. We've got a chance to be good up front."
