The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga., today. The Mocs fall to 4-7 overall while the Panthers improved to 7-5.
"This was a hard-fought match against a very good team," stated UTC head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "This was our best tennis this year, we were tough and gritty. I really saw elements in this team that are going to be needed as we progress through the spring. Guys played hard and didn't back down at all."
Georgia State won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The Panthers put the team win away with three straight singles victories. However, the Mocs were in three-set battles in four of the six matches.
Senior
Turner Voges scored a win [4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-3)] over Andrei Duarte at No. 2. That comeback win was his third in a row as he moved to 7-2 in the second spot.
Sophomore
Kerim Hyatt had the other point for the Mocs today. The also posted a three-set win at No. 3 over Harvey Maughan [7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7)]. It was his seventh win in a row, upping his mark at No. 3 to 7-2 in the spring.
The Mocs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Lee University. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at the UTC Tennis Center. A link for live scoring is available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
