Soccer Hosts Mercer on Senior Day

The Chattanooga Mocs will close out the home slate of the regular season Sunday afternoon in a Southern Conference matchup against Mercer. The two teams are just one point apart in the SoCon standings with UTC ahead in third.

Mocs vs. Bears
The Mocs and Bears are even in the series at 4-4-2. Since Mercer joined the SoCon, UTC has won only one match, a 2-1 overtime victory in McKinney's second season (2016). UTC won the first three meetings, all non-conference and are 1-3-2 sincer Mercer joined the league.

Seniors
Osa Iyare: In her first season with Chattanooga, Osa led the Mocs in goals scored and recorded game winners against Union and Wofford. This season she scored the game winning goal in the Mocs' shutout against The Citadel. She has started 18 games for the Mocs and appeared in 26. Prior to UTC, she recorded a pair of assists in her freshman season at Memphis. Osa has been named to the UTC Dean's List and Athletics Director's Honor Roll and earned a spot on the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and Honor Roll. Osa will graduate this spring with a degree in Communication. She is the daughter of Natasha Lattirmore.
 
Emily Szymanski: Emily has appeared in 57 games for the Mocs with 19 starts. As a junior, she was third on the team in scoring. She has five career goals and two assists for 12 points and scored game winning goals against Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee State. Emily has been named to the UTC Dean's List and Athletics Director's Honor Roll. She has earned a spot on the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and Honor Roll. Emily will graduate this spring with a degree in Business. She is the daughter of Becky and Greg Szymanski.

Lauren Dluzewski: Lauren has been an anchor for the Mocs defense and was instrumental in leading UTC to a school-record fewest goals allowed and goals against average last year. In her sophomore year she scored three goals and had one assist. She recorded the equalizer in the Mocs draw against VMI and assisted on the game winner against ETSU. Lauren has been named to the UTC Dean's List and Athletics Director's Honor Roll. She has earned a spot on the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and Honor Roll. Lauren will graduate this spring with a degree in Tourism Management. She is the daughter of Colleen and Richard Dluzewski.
 
Chloe Arnold: In her four seasons with the Mocs, Chloe has climbed into the record books. She ranks fourth for goals scored and fifth for points. She was Chattanooga's first-ever Southern Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year and a Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 Freshman. She earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and was named Player of the Week by the Southern Conference and College Sports Madness. She has seven game winners and leads the team in scoring. Chloe has been named to the UTC Dean's List and Athletics Director's Honor Roll. She has earned a spot on the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and Honor Roll. Chloe will graduate this spring with a degree in Civil Engineering. She is the daughter of Piper and Andy Arnold.

About Chattanooga
The Mocs 4-1-1 Southern Conference record matches the first six games in league play in 2018. UTC's best SoCon five-game mark in school history is 4-1 in the 2004 season when UTC finished with its best overall (12-5-1) and Southern Conference (7-3-1) records. Chattanooga, 5-1-1 overall, moved to third in the SoCon standings after Friday's win and remains one point behind Samford and six behind league-leader Furman. In the SoCon-only stats, UTC is second in goals allowed (4) and goals-against average (0.54) and has three shutouts against the conference. Abbey Saddler leads the SoCon for GAA (0.40) and Ashton Shields is sixth (0.62). Shields has two shutouts against the league and Saddler has one and the pair combined for a non-conference clean sheet. Overall, Chloe Arnold and Samatha Shaw each have a team-high five points with two goals and one assist. Kendra Mueller, third on the team in scoring, has two goals, both game winners.
