Soccer on the Road at UNCG Thursday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team heads to Greensboro, N.C., for a Thursday afternoon matchup at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

CHATTANOOGA vs. UNCG
UNCG owns a 20-3-3 record against the Mocs in the series dating back to 1997. UTC snapped the Spartans' five-game win streak with three wins and a tie from 2002-05. UNCG won the next 12 before the two teams match in the 2017 regular season ended in a scoreless draw. After winning the next three, the two teams faced off in the SoCon Tournament quarterfinal. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation and through two overtimes. The Spartans won the match on penalty kicks by a 4-2 margin to advance to the semifinal round.
 
ABOUT THE MOCS
Chattanooga is 5-1-1 in Southern Conference action and third in the Southern Conference standing, one point behind Samford and three off the leader Furman. The Mocs have two matches remaining in the regular season, both on the road at UNCG and VMI. At home, UTC posted an unbeaten 5-0-1 mark, the first in program history, and just its second unbeaten SoCon mark at home. UTC is riding a three-game win streak, all by shuout and have four on the year.
 
UNBEATEN AT HOME
The Mocs went unbeaten at home this season for the first time in program history at 5-0-1. Chattanooga's SoCon record was 4-0-1 marking the second time UTC has not lost at home in a season in program history. The other was a 3-0-2 record in 2003.
 
MOCS WITH FOUR SOCON PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
For the first time in program history, UTC has had four players named SoCon Player of the Week.
 
MAGGIE SHAW NAMED SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Maggie Shaw anchored a Mocs' defense that posted a pair of shutouts, helping UTC to remain unbeaten at home this season. In UTC's matchup against The Citadel, the Bulldogs were held to just three shots with only one on goal. Two days later, the Mocs allowed just one shot on goal by Mercer for its their third straight 1-0 shutout.
 
MUELLER NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kendra Mueller was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week after booting home two game winners. The redshirt freshman entered the starting lineup last week. She took just two shots in the two games and each one led to a goal.
 
SHIELDS NAMED SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Ashton Shields was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week after earning a shutout with six saves against league-favorite Samford. The Mocs and Bulldogs battled to a 0-0 draw in the SoCon-opener for both teams.
 
ARNOLD NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Chloe Arnold scored the game winner against North Alabama in the season-opener on a first-half penalty kick. It is the first POTW honor for the senior who was the 2017 SoCon Freshman of the Year, the first-ever for UTC.
 
MOCS POST FIVE SHUTOUTS, FOUR IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE PLAY
UTC started the season with a 2-0 non-conference shutout against North Alabama in the opener. A scoreless draw against Samford followed in the league-opener for both teams. Chattanooga recorded shutouts against three straight league opponents, all by a 1-0 margin – Wofford, The Citadel and Mercer.
 
CHATTANOOGA SITTING IN THIRD IN THE LEAGUE STANDINGS
The Mocs beat The Citadel to move into third place ahead of Mercer for third place in the Southern Conference standings. UTC then posted a shutout against the Bears two days later to move further ahead of Mercer in the standings. The Mocs are one point behind Samford and three behind league-leader Furman. The Paladins have just one match remaining while UTC and Samford each play UNCG and VMI in the final regular season weekend of play.
