Foam fingers, noise makers and silly string greeted the Chattanooga Mocs' soccer team as they boarded the bus for Greenville, S.C., Friday afternoon outside of their home field.

UTC athletics department staff, coaches and student-athletes were on hand on a warm, sunny afternoon to cheer on the Mocs as the team departed for the Southern Conference Championship semifinal against Furman.

Chattanooga finished the season 7-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in SoCon play for third, its best finish in program history. UTC started the season with a shutout victory against Northern Alabama before beginning league action.

The Mocs opened league play with a scoreless draw against Samford at home and went on to win their next four home matches for an unbeaten 5-0-1 mark in Chattanooga. UTC split its road matches with wins at Wofford and VMI while falling at Furman and UNCG.

- Chattanooga and Furman have met 27 times since 1996.

Maggie Shaw was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She anchored a defense that recorded six shutouts and allowed just five goals in 10 games.

Chloe Arnold leads Chattanooga in goals and points this season and was named the league's Player of the Week after UTC's opening match. She earned All-Conference Second Team honors.

Abbey Saddler is 4-0-0 on the year with 3.5 shutouts She leads the SoCon in goals against average and saves percentage.

Ashton Shields has 2.5 shutouts on the year and was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after posting a shutout against league champion Samford at home. She had six saves in the game.
