Postgame Quotes

Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Overall thoughts after 20-0 win over UNA.
"I was really happy with how we just kept playing tonight. We played one snap at a time and gave ourselves an opportunity to go win a football game. It's hard to shut people out in college football. That's a big deal. It doesn't matter who you're playing. It's hard to shut people out and get wins. I thought we played a clean game for the most part, we corrected a lot of things we had to correct from week one to week two."

On an improved running game tonight.
"We played better up front. We saw some things on film that we thought would be good for us tonight and we were able to execute and get some things done."

On a total team effort.
"We brought 63 guys on this trip and it took all of them. I thought we played better in the kicking game, better defensively, and offensively if you take those two turnovers away, it was a pretty clean game all around."

Devonnsha Maxwell, Jr.-DL
On tying school record 3.5 sacks.
"That's how it went. I wasn't making very many plays at first and I just put my head down and defensively it came. It just shows you have to be resilient."

On the difference of the defensive play from week one to two.
"We came out and worked harder. We were already working hard but we came out this week and really worked. We turned it up a notch after we took it personal."

Ailym Ford, RB-So.
On the efforts from the defense.
"The defense played a heck of a game. They came back with a chip on their shoulder. The safeties, the defensive backs, getting pick sixes, special teams were a big a part of it. I just want to give this game to the defense."

On the running back group's depth.
"We're coached up and we train hard. We practice how we play. That's what we try to do in the game and everything carries over. Tyrell [Price] is our leader in the running back group. We have a lot of guys that can play."

Cole Copeland, Jr.-QB
On making first start for UTC since 2017.
"It was special tonight. It was a little emotional, it was a journey. It was a lot to get back here. It was a lot of work that people don't see. Obviously, I couldn't be happier to be back. It's hard. It's gritty. You have to be resilient. I made a lot of mistakes early in my career off the field and I couldn't apologize enough to everyone. It's just nice to get back here and the defense took care of us tonight."

On getting in rhythm with receiving core.
"We need to get on the practice field and get some things figured out. Throwing is all about timing and we're a little behind because I haven't worked too much with the ones. We'll get to work and figure it out."
