AUBURN, Ala. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the 11
th-ranked Auburn Tigers who extended the nation's longest active win streak to 10 games Sunday afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
Â
"Tough to play at #11 in the nation," head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "They are a very talented side. It was our intent to get behind the ball and make things as difficult as possible for them."
Â
The Mocs move to 2-4 overall and Auburn improves to 5-0.
Â
Chattanooga's defensive effort held the Tigers scoreless in the first half with keeper
Abbey Saddler making four saves. She finished the match with six, one shy of her season high.
Â
Chattanooga attacked into the Auburn defensive third several times and into the box, but were unable to get the all to the goal.
Â
"For the most part we defended really well," McKinney said. "In possession we were a pass away from opening them up on a few occasions."
Â
Auburn's first goal came off a corner kick by Anna Haddock. Her shot sailed just out of reach for Saddler and into the top right corner of the net for the eventual game winner.
Â
The final two goals from Olivia Candelino were just seconds apart. She found the net with 8:52 remaining, shooting past Saddler who came out of the net in a save effort. Forty-two seconds later, Candelino once again, from almost the same spot, sent a shot into the upper left corner for the brace.
Â
"Overall we are proud of the teams effort," McKinney said. "It will serve as a good learning tool going forward."
Â
The Mocs remain on the road to take on North Alabama Friday night in Florence. The match is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Follow all the action online with links to live scoring and streaming video at GoMocs.com.
