FLORENCE, Ala. --- Three goals from three different scorers earned the Chattanooga Mocs a 3-1 win over North Alabama Friday night in non-conference women's soccer action at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex. UTC evens out its road record and improves to 3-4 overall. North Alabama falls to 0-5-2 on th year.
Â
"Good result away," Mocs head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "UNA is a tough team and made things difficult. We were glad to get a few more people on the score sheet tonight."
Â
Kendra Mueller struck first for Chattanooga. In the 22
nd minute,
Grace Klippenstein, from outside the 18-yard box, sent a pass to the far post. Mueller sent a quick punch off the side of her foot low into the net for the go-ahead goal.
Â
The lead wouldn't last long, however, as the Lions picked up the equalizer at the 25:18 mark of the match from Kate Wiseman. She sent her shot into the top left to make it 1-1.
Â
After going into intermission tied, the Mocs scored a pair of late goals from
Maggie Shaw and
Mackenzie Smith.
Â
Shaw's goal came off a free kick from about 35 yards out. The junior defender lofted the ball to the far post and it found the upper right side of the net for what would be the game winner in the 76
th minute.
Â
With less than eight minutes remaining,
Mackenzie Smith scored her first goal of the season as well.
Â
Samantha Shaw, pushing hard down the left side passed the ball into the box to find a charging Smith right in front of the net inside the six-yard box. The ball, perfectly placed on her left foot, hit the back of the net for the insurance goal.
Â
"Hopefully we can keep up the good form with SoCon play approaching soon," McKinney said.
Â
However, before the league comes to town at the end of the month, the Mocs will host No. 19 Tennessee Sunday at the UTC Sports Complex. Tickets are on sale online at GoMocs.com. Buy your ticket now and print at home for easy entry. Cash and credit cards will be accepted at the gate.
