Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
No. 10 Chattanooga Mocs at ETSU
Greene Stadium – Johnson City, Tenn.
Saturday - Oct. 1, 2022
Head Coach Rusty Wright
On what changed from the first half to the second half:
"Execution. Execution. We executed about as poorly as a group could execute in the first half, in every phase of the game. Special teams, offense, defense. The first touchdown run we give up is just a matter of somebody being in the right spot and getting the guy on the ground. Missed tackles, lack of execution.Â
"We came out in the second half and we just played. Our kids went out there in the second half and just kept playing."
On the poise of this team:
"We talked about it all week. We talked about coming in here and having composure, confidence and execute. That's what we talked about. There is no question, my group was the most composed football team out there all night long. As bad as stuff got, I thought they just kept playing and coaches did a great job trying to find something that worked. They did a good job at halftime and got it figured out."
On the better play of the offensive line in the second half:
"They did. Again, it was a lack of execution in the first half. It's about hats on hats and eyes on eyes and being in the right spot and execute. What we do is not hard, that is why you have to go execute."
On the excitement of this win:
"I am fired up for those young men because they never quit playing. They never stopped playing. They just kept digging and kept digging and we found a way to go win a football game. They are learning too. They are learning how to find a way to go win a football game."
What does this win mean for this group?
"I hope there are good days ahead."
Ty Boeck – Sr.-LB
On how special this win is:
"We knew we just had to come in here and play every play. Play the next play. Being the second time up here, the first time was a really close loss, this time being able to stick it out in the end was really special. Especially, them being the SoCon Champs last year. It is a big morale boost for us. Just looking forward to the rest of the season.
On the play of the defense in the second half:
"They took advantage of some mistakes we made in the kicking game and got some good field position, but I thought the defense did a great job of responding and holding them to some key field goals. That ended up giving us the win."
On the conversations in the locker room at halftime:
"We knew that we made some key mistakes and let them get some big plays in the first half. Especially defensively. We didn't have to make any adjustments, we just had to do what we've been coached to do. We did a great job of that in the second half and you saw the results."
Jamoi Mayes – So.-WR
On the difference in the first half and the second half:
"In the first half, we couldn't catch our groove. Coach came in at halftime and told us to just keep playing. In the first half, we got the best shot they could give us."
On getting the big touchdown in the second half in this environment:
"It is the best feeling ever. My teammates and coaches are hard on me and they support me when I make big catches."
On what was working with the passing game in the second half:
"We just played together. That is about it."
How big of a win is this for this program:
"This being a rivalry and to win it again, it is the best feeling. It is also a great feeling for the fans."
Ailym Ford – Jr.-RB
On how big of a win this is:
"It is a big win. We had a lot of hard times throughout the game. It is only going to make us a better team in the long run. Overcoming our obstacles, learning how to play as a team and execute all the way through the fourth quarter."
On the change from the first half to the second half:
"Like I said, it is really about executing as a team and knowing that every play you have to help your teammate."
On getting the message from the coaches that the team had to execute better:
"It wasn't hard (to get the message) at all. They way we practice and the way we train, we know when we are playing good and we know when we are playing bad. We just had to get that handled at halftime and we went out there and got it done."
On seeing -5 yards rushing in the first half as a team:
"Honestly, we are not all about stats. We are all about finding a way to win the game. If we are not good at running the ball at that moment, we are going to find a way to open it up in the pass game. I am going to block as hard as I can so those receivers can get the ball downfield."
