Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Opening statement after win over No. 11 Mercer.
"Opening statement is that we just watched it for four quarters. Let's go. All right. That's good win. Okay. That's a good win. That's a group out there prepared themselves all week. It's a fun group to be in locker room with. They try their butts off. Monday through Friday ain't always pretty. We ain't always the best, but it's a good group. So with that, I'm sorry. I promise you it's a great day in my mind. I promise you. I'm so excited for that group and those coaches. A lot of fun down there. Crazy how it works when you don't turn it over. And that's what we did last year. We go down there and turn it over five times. This year. did we have one today? No. Amazing how it works."
On the play from the wide receivers.
"Those young receivers continue to step up and make plays. I mean to see them make plays specifically and was always seemingly in the right place at the right time every time. I'm not sure the stage affects them, but they work hard at it. That's the thing. And they've got the talent. That's the thing. They got the talent. And we got somebody who can deliver the ball to him. That's the other that helps a bunch. You talk about a tough dude. I mean, when your quarterbacks [
Preston Hutchinson] tough, you got tough football you can point to."
Ty Boeck, Sr.-LB
On potential targeting call early in the game.
"All I could think was, man, it's really early, really go out the game, but I'm glad it was overturned. I was pretty confident it was going to get overturned, I didn't think it was penalty, but yeah, defense came out to play today. We started well. We got stagnant there in the middle, but we ended up re-solidifying and finishing the game the right way."
On making a statement and moving forward.
"It's just really kind of letting us know that we are the team that we think we are and that we have the tools we need to succeed and finish out the rest of the season the way we want to. And we have four games left. We're going to get four good games. Everybody's going to play best of their ability against us. So we're looking forward to it and just ready to finish the season right away."
On coming into this game.
"We had a great week of practice. I think everybody knew that we couldn't have a bad week of practice and win this game. So just being able to focus and do everything, we did everything right in the game and limited our mistakes which really helped us win this game."
Ailym Ford, Jr.-RB
On today's huge win over No. 11 Mercer.
"Very special, man. We progressed a lot from last season. We have receivers blocking downfield, we have the o-line making plays. It's just an amazing experience being a part of a team like this."
On the defense turning into offense.
"It's definitely an honor being a part of a team with a great defense. We got a lot of guys that can definitely play at the next level and they'll definitely get us the ball back just about every time they touch the field without anybody scoring, and that's just great. So we got to score on offense, make something out of nothing."
On hearing the 3,000 yard accomplishment during the game.
"Honestly, I wasn't paying any attention. I was focused on winning the game. Then after the game, I was like, man, that's history. I'm thankful for that. Being a part of the program with the opportunity like this."
