CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team secured its 10
th conference victory of the season behind a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) sweep over The Citadel in the regular season finale during Southern Conference action on Saturday evening in Charleston, S.C.
Following the win, Chattanooga finishes the regular season 16-15 overall and 10-6 in SoCon play. The 10 wins are the most in league action since 2016. The Citadel drops to 11-18 overall and 4-12 in the SoCon.
Chattanooga finishes the season in fourth place heading into next weekend's SoCon Tournament held in Greenville, S.C., on the campus of Furman. The fourth-place finish is the best for the program since going 10-6 and finishing in fourth during the 2016 season.
"I was so happy to finish on the road with a win heading into the tournament," said head coach Julie Torbett. "Natalie [Tyson] and Sydney [Hall] continue to perform and lead this team on the court. Elaine Redman did a great job today setting and a tremendous defensive effort. Paige [Gallentine] was solid also on the defensive end.
"It was a nice way to cap off the regular season."
Chattanooga opened the match with a dominant first two sets as the Mocs out-attacked the Bulldogs by a wide .324% to .078% margin in hitting percentage to notch a 2-0 lead behind 25-18 and 25-15 set decisions, respectively. UTC closed the sweep out with another commanding effort, posting a 25-20 victory in the third.
Natalie Tyson once again led the Mocs offensive attack behind a match-high 15 kills at a .350% hitting percentage. She against notched a double-double behind a 12-dig performance. Sydney Hall (nine kills at .444%) and Halle Olson (seven kills at .115%) chipped in to aid the offense.
Elaine Redman directed the offense with a match-high 33 assists while stuffing the stat sheet behind 14 digs, two aces, two kills and five blocks (four assists, one solo). Kate Neill also tallied five blocks (five assists) in addition to picking up five kills on seven swings for a .714% hitting total.
The backrow effort was led by Paige Gallentine who finished with a match-high 19 digs over the three sets. She also added three assists to help chip in on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive specialist Makenzie Jordan added six digs and added an ace in the victory.

Chattanooga finishes the regular season as the No. 4 seed and will kick off next weekend's Southern Conference Tournament against No. 5 Wofford at 11 a.m. ET.
