Women's Basketball Returns Home to Host Kennesaw State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team returns to the Roundhouse Monday night to host Kennesaw State in non-conference action in the first of a three-game week.

CHATTANOOGA vs. KENNESAW STATE
The Mocs are 2-2 all-time against Kennesaw State. Chattanooga has won both games at home while the Owls have taken both games on their own home court. Only once has the game headed to overtime with Kennesaw State winning that contest.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET: Kennesaw State 75, Chattanooga 68 | 11/23/21
Despite outscoring the Owls in the second half and putting together a late rally, the Mocs fell at Kennesaw State. After trailing 49-31 early in the third quarter, UTC put together an 18-4 run to cut the KSU lead to 51-49 with 2:47 left in the period.However, the Owls closed out the quarter on a run of its own to lead by 10 headed into the fourth. UTC cut the Owls lead to single digits in the fourth, but couldn't get over the hill. Four Chattanooga players scored in double figures led by Abbey Cornelius with a game-high 21 points.
 
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (2-3)
The Mocs fell to Murray State on the road in their last outing after leading by seven points shortly into the fourth quarter. All three losses were close by a combined 10 points. After starting the season with a 65-39 win over Young Harris, the Mocs next win was a 29-point (60-31) victory against Tennessee State.
 
The Mocs have a nine-point scoring margin against it's opponents and a 3.4 rebounding advantage. From the field, UTC is shooting 40.8 percent and 28.1 percent from long range. Chattanooga averages 11 free throws per game and making 75.3 percent from the line.
 
Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the way with 17.2 points per game and is 12-of-39 from the 3-point line. Abbey Cornelius is second on the team in scoring averaging 12.6 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game. She has nine blocked shots and ranks third all-time in Mocs' history with 137. Freshman Raven Thompson led the Mocs in scoring at Murray State with a career-best 15 points. She is third on the team in scoring (9.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.4) and has scored in double digits three times while twice flirting with a double-double. Addie Grace Porter is second on the team in rebounding with 6.6 per game and fourth for scoring with 7.0 points per game. She leads the team with 3.0 assists per game.
 
ABOUT KENNESAW STATE (1-3)
The Owls lone win was a 100-57 victory against Middle Georgia State in the opening week. Their three losses are nothing to sneeze at taking on Ole Miss (60-72), Georgia Tech (39-65) and Georgia (47-89).
 
KSU is averaging 61.5 points and 36.8 rebounds per game. From the field, the Owls are shooting 36.7 percent and are 30.5 percent from the 3-point line.
 
Jah'Che Whitfield is the lone KSU player in double digits with 12.0 points per game and leads the team with 4.5 rebounds per game. Amani Johnson is second on the team in scoring with 8.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Lindsey Whilby leads the team with 4.5 rebounds per game and is third in scoring with 7.3 points per game.
