Postgame Quotes
Â
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening statement after 69-66 win over Murray State.
"I'm proud of our guys and I want to thank the crowd for coming out and supporting us. It wasn't the prettiest of games, so the good thing is you figure out how to win a tough game against a tough team in Murray State. Overall, I thought we had good minutes from all of the guys. Every little thing matters, especially in a tight game like this. It feels good to get a win like this at home."
Â
On Jake Stephens adjusting to different looks from the defense.
"That will be a big step for him this year. Teams are going to play him differently. That's a tough thing to figure out. I thought he's done a good job the past two games in the second half of kicking the ball out. He did what he could do tonight. I thought he was outstanding tonight."
Â
On the difference in a close game down the stretch.
"I think we handled not making shots better tonight. That's something we talked about too in a spirited Thanksgiving morning practice and another hard practice yesterday. We have a bunch of great high character guys. You could feel it tonight, we had a lot of open shots and we just weren't making them. That can be hard for everyone, the fans, the coaches, and certainly the players going through it. I thought we did a much better job of it not allowing it to affect our defense and other facets of the game."
Â
Jake Stephens, Gr.-C
On the team trust.
"You just have to trust your guys. We had a lot of guys step up in the second half and make plays. We try to take what they give us, and we try not to force anything. We just want to be patient and that's what happened, we'll take that."
On the clutch shots from Jamal Johnson.
"We never doubt anyone. He's a great shooter and is always in the gym. He has a lot of confidence and we have a lot of confidence in him. We kept telling him about the next one and how he'll step up for us. It's big for him."
Â
Jamal Johnson, Gr.-G
On the confidence.
"My teammates. I love my teammates, they kept motivating me and giving me positive feedback. They kept telling me to keep going. I love my coaches and my teammates for aspiring me to be the best I can be. It felt good to see some go in."
Â
On moving forward after tonight's performance.
"I'm going to keep shooting, keep being confident, keep being positive and make the best out of this opportunity and win as many games as possible."
