Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Home Sweep Over UNCG on Friday Night

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team used a dominating offensive and serving effort to down the Spartans and push its way up the SoCon standings.

CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team completed a season sweep over UNCG after rolling its way to a straight-set 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-22) victory over the Spartans in a Southern Conference matchup on Friday night inside Maclellan Gym.

Following the win, Chattanooga improves to 14-14 overall this season and 8-5 in SoCon play. UNCG falls to 10-15 and 4-9 in league action. The Mocs will have an opportunity to move into a tie for third place in the standings with a victory over Western Carolina tomorrow.

Chattanooga controlled the match from the start after scoring the first six points of the opening set before cruising its way to a 25-10 victory. The Mocs posted a similar dominating 25-10 win in the second set after limiting UNCG to a -.032% attacking percentage during the frame.

After trailing 18-14, UTC finished the match on an 11-5 run and capped off the sweep with a 25-22 come-from-behind win in the third. There were just four ties and one lead change in the match's entirety while three of the ties and the solo lead change all occurred in the third set.

The Mocs posted a season-high 11 aces and out-slugged the Spartans in kills (37-29) and attacking efficiency (.341% - .104%). UTC also controlled play at the net on the defensive side after out-blocking UNCG 5.0 to 2.0 which included a pair of solo blocks and six assists.

Natalie Tyson led the offensive attack with a match-high 12 kills at a blistering .367% percentage while also leading the match in aces with three. She chipped in with seven digs and a block assist to amass a match-high 16.0 point total.

Kate Neill added eight kills at a .500% clip while Halle Olson finished with seven kills at a .227% number. Sydney Hall and Chloe Bryan each tallied four kills and combined for six blocks as Hall registered a block solo and two assists, in addition to Bryan's three assists.

Sophia Bossong directed the offense with 22 assists and surpassed 2,000 career assists to become just the eighth Moc in program history to achieve the feat. She also added eight digs, two kills and three service aces to fill the stat sheet. Elaine Redman added seven assists to help guide the offense.

Paige Gallentine once again reached double digits in the dig category after posting a match-high 16 digs over the three sets. She also added a pair of service aces as she was one of four Mocs who recorded multiple aces. Makenzie Jordan also added two aces and four digs in her defensive specialist role.
