CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team and head coach
Chuck Merzbacher have finalized its latest addition to the 2023-24 roster, inking Mooresville, North Carolina standout Walker Valentine as part of the early signing period in November.
Valentine, a product of Lake Norman, is rated as a four-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network and is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in North Carolina. He carries a No. 30 ranking among prospects in the Southeast and a No. 104 ranking in the nation.
"We are pleased to announce that Walker Valentine will be a Moc in the Fall of 2023. This young man plays hard and with a lot of passion. He is built for college tennis, no doubt," said head coach Merzbacher.
"He has a solid playing resume, which I was really impressed about, as he puts himself to the test in his aggressive tourney schedule. Certainly, one of the most important aspects for college tennis, is that a player comes in that can score points in singles and doubles. Walker is that guy. I'm looking forward to working with him."
Valentine has appeared in multiple ITF tournaments around the country and has claimed numerous victories at the L4 and L5 level around the Southern section. He has qualified for the Eddie Herr in the 12's, 14's and 16's and also played in the Orange Bowl in the 14's and 16's.
Valentine has sustained success through all levels of his playing career with his first victory coming at the young age of seven after he captured a USTA Tournament crown at the boys 10's singles level. As a young competitor, Valentine won the Little Mo Regionals three-straight years and advanced to the national stage twice.
