Mocs Close Indoor Season Eighth at SoCon Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Chattanooga women closed out the final day of the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with scoring runs and personal bests.

Faith Brown posted a PR in the mile, improving her time by six seconds from Saturday's prelim and after running in the Distance Medley Relay Saturday night. She placed 10th with a time of 5:25.28.

"Faith ran hard in the mile," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "She hung as long as she could and gave us a great effort."

Emmy Davis also set a PR time of 2:19.87, placing eighth and scoring for the Mocs in the 800 meter final on Sunday.

"She went out strong and hung on as the race was fast from the very beginning," Meyer said. "Like Faith, Emmy was faster today when it counted most."

Justine Glass and Lesley Green both earned points for the Mocs in the 5000 meter run with Glass seventh and Green eighth in the final. Green was 0.23 seconds shy of her PR with a time of 17:36.67 while Glass recorded a time of 17:25.10 in her first 5K in the indoor season.

"Our distance ladies had a much better day today," Meyer said compared to their struggle in the 3K Saturday. "They stayed off the pace initially and stayed on pace actually negative splitting the race.

"Emma Russum was just outside of placing. Both Lesley and Emma significantly improved their times over last years race here."

The Mocs 4x400 meter relay team was filled with three runners who competed Sunday, including Glass whose got to rest briefly with just the men's relay between her 5K and the women's relay.

"Emmy led off with a good split," Meyer recounted. "Faith ran second solidifying our spot. Justine coming right off the 5k roughed her leg out and Carley [Burt] brought us home.

"Overall, we had some very good performances. Several of the girls ran their very best or right at it. We scored at or above our seeds. We can now look forward to our outdoor season."

The Mocs finished eighth overall with 10 points. Samford men and women successfully defended their respective titles. The men won handily while the women edged out ETSU.

The Outdoor season will kick off March 18-19 at Lee University in Cleveland. It will be one of five regular season meets with the SoCon Championships April 30-May 1 in Birmingham, Ala.
