BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Chattanooga women's indoor track and field team had eight personal bests Sunday afternoon at the USA Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
"The ladies certainly exceeded our expectations for this meet," head coach
Andy Meyer said. "Across the board we made solid improvements."
Â
In the Mile run, all three runners set PRs led by
Justine Glass who won her heat with a time of 4:59.84. She beat out her previous best time by more than nine seconds and
Lesley Green took nearly 23 seconds off with a time of 5:05.73.
Emma Russum edged out her best with a time of 5:12.50.
Â
"Justine ran a very smart race. She went back and forth with another girl in the last 400 meters and fortunate to have won. The goal for the milers was to set PRs and improved their speed as they did."
Â
Emmy Davis was close to her PR in the 800 meter run. She was 0.65 second off her best with a time of 2:22.66.
Brooke Rieves (2:31.89) and
Sydney Cansler (2:57.51) improved on their bests in the middle distance race.
Â
"The 800 showed everyone progressing in a positive direction," Meyer said. "
Emmy Davis negative split her race and almost got the heat win as she was just edged at the line."
Â
Kimbra Dunning was the busiest running in a pair of sprints and competing in the long jump. She and
Imani Bryant both PR'd in the 200 meter while just missing out in the 60 meter dash along with
Sage Davis. Dunning jumped 5.21 meters in the long jump.
Â
"Kimbra had the most consistent long jump of her college career," Meyer said. "She had no fouls and each jump got better. Consistency is huge for the launch and she's getting there."
Â
Faith Brown improved upon her time in the 3000 meter race at the end of the day while
Allie Potter and
Camden Morris each posted strong times in their first try at the distance in the indoor season.
Â
"Faith, Allie and Camden all ran hard in the 3K," Meyer said. "In the 400 both Carley and Rebekah improved their times over the last meet.
Â
"We have to get rested and ready to go again on Friday back here at Samford."
Â
The Mocs return to action Friday at the Samford Bulldog Invite at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
