CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis program and head coach
Chuck Merzbacher have announced the signing of highly-touted four-star recruit Cortland Grove out of Laurel Springs Academy in Suwanee, Georgia, to the 2022-23 roster.
"It is super important for us to attract the top players in the South, as that is a corner stone of our program. Cortland has had a wonderful junior tennis career, as a four-star recruit, he is ranked near the top 150 in the nation and top 5 in Georgia," said coach Merzbacher.
According to TennisRecruiting.net, Grove currently ranks as the No. 6 recruit in Georgia, No. 43 in the Southeast and No. 153 nationally. He has made a finals appearance in the Georgia Peach State Closed 18 singles while earning a second-place finish in doubles at the National Level 2 event and a third-place end in the Southern Closed doubles tournament. "He has had excellent results against the best in the nation. I believe his best tennis is in front of him, as his game is built for college tennis. Most importantly, Cortland is a very good student, and he is very involved community outreach programs. He is certainly a well-rounded student-athlete," added Merzbacher.
Grove comes from a very athletic family background as his father, David, played tennis collegiately at West Virginia in addition to his brother Collin, who played baseball at LSU, and brother Chandler, who was a member of the Kentucky men's basketball practice squad.
Off the court, Grove is a member of the National Honor Society while being a main fixture in community service outreach. Grove started to the CDAWG Foundation which promotes youth development by providing a model of education and athletics in communities that prove extracurricular sports and activities for youth.
