Megan Docherty and the Chattanooga Mocs take aim at the 20-team Chattanooga Classic field at Council Fire this Sunday-Tuesday.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is back in action this Sunday. The key is the ladies don't have to travel far. They host the 20-team, 105-player Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club. The three-day, 54-hole event starts with 18 holes Sunday and ends with a final 18 Tuesday.
It's an impressive field Coach Colette Murray assembled. Along with her group, there are squads from around the country representing the ACC, Big Ten and several top mid-major programs. Council Fire is a fantastic test for this collegiate field playing 6,234 yards at a par of 72.
Juniors Dorota Zalewska and Esme Hamilton lead the home team into this week's event. Both are on track to break Emily McLennan's '16 school record for scoring average in a season. McLennan turned in 73.34 in 2015-16. Zalewska is almost an entire stroke lower at 72.38, while Hamilton is close to breaking the 73-shot threshold with a 73.05 average.
Two freshmen continue to battle through their first collegiate campaigns. Carolina Hortian posts 76.95 strokes per round, while Megan Docherty comes in a 77.57 per 18. They're set for the third Chattanooga Classic in school history.
The Mocs won the 2015 edition at Council Fire led by Isabella Loza's fourth-place finish. Hamilton and her squad finished second a year ago at Black Creek. Each day's round starts at 8:30 a.m., off the first hole with split pairings beginning on holes 1 and 10 on Tuesday.
Wisconsin, Yale and South Florida start the proceedings Sunday morning. Chattanooga's groups begin at 9:24 a.m., and run through 9:51 a.m. The last pairing is at 1:36 p.m., consisting of Iowa, Samford and Murray State.
