CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Running Mocs will hit the road again this weekend for the UAB Outdoor Track and Field Spring Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
Â
"We are headed to Birmingham this weekend for great competition," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "This meet will be an opportunity for us to work into form and improve our conditioning overall."
Â
Dozens of schools will be competing in Birmingham this weekend, including Berry, Birmingham Southern, West Alabama, Mercer, Cumberland, Emory, AUM and Georgia State.
Â
There will be a few "firsts" of the season this weekend with runners in the Steeplechase and the 4x100 relay. A few will be returning from injury as they work toward being ready for the SoCon Championships at the end of the month.
Â
The Mocs will begin with Kimbra Dunning in the long jump late Friday afternoon with Morgan Oullette and Faith Brown in the 3000 meter Steeplechase a couple hours later.
Â
Brown ran her first at the 2021 SoCon Championships, just missing all-conference honors with a fourth place finish. However, it will be the first of her collegiate career for Oullette.
Â
Saturday morning's competition will get started early with Allie Potter, Emma Russum and Ashtyn Hagood in the women's 5000 meter run.
Â
The men's cross country team, Jonathan Boyd, Aaron Isbell, Eric Mitchell, Kaigen Mulkey, Eammon O'Bryant, Ryan Phillips and Jasper Wilson will compete in the 5000 meter run right after the women's race.
Â
The women's 4x100 meter relay will run midday. Carley Burt and Rebekah Pass will run next in the 400 meter dash.
Â
The women's 100 meter dash will have 10 heats. McKenzie Williamson is up first in the third heat with Sage Davis and Imani Bryant in the fourth. Kimbra Dunning is in the fifth of the event.
Â
Russum will run her second race of the day in the 800 meter run along with Sydney Cansler.
Â
"We also will be resting a couple of the other kids that have been racing regularly in preparation for some hard meets later this spring," Meyer said.
Â
Live scoring for the weekend meet is available online at GoMocs.com.
