Women’s Tennis Back at Home to Host Mercer on Monday

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team returns home to host its fourth Southern Conference dual of the season as they get set to host Mercer on Monday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. ET.

Chattanooga heads into the weekend with an 11-7 overall mark and an even 2-2 tally inside SoCon play. The Mocs sit alone in fourth place in the league standings, a half match behind Samford (3-2) in third, and a few matches behind league leaders ETSU (6-0) and Furman (5-0).

The duo of Nicole Abel and Emma Van Hee have been dominant during doubles action over the past month, winning seven straight dating back to a March 5 match at UT Martin when the roll started. The partners are a perfect 4-0 inside SoCon action this season and are a perfect 8-0 as a tandem (one fall win vs. Stetson in September).

In singles play, Caroline Gibbens has provided a stable and impressive stretch of matches over the past few weeks. Gibbens has won six of her last seven singles matches including three straight. Five of the six victories over the span have come at No. 3 singles.

Mercer heads into the Monday match looking to snap a six-match losing streak. The Bears have played to a 6-12 record this season and sit at 0-4 in SoCon play with all four of the losses included in the current six-match skid. UTC has won the past 11 meetings, however, the last four have been decided by a narrow 4-3 margin.
