Improvements at War Eagle Invitational Highlight Final Meet

Faith Brown set a PR in the 3000m Steeplechase Friday at the War Eagle Invitational.
AUBURN, Ala. --- The Chattanooga track and field team closed out the outdoor season Saturday on Day Two of the Auburn War Eagle Invitational at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.

"This was maybe our best overall team performance of the year," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "Everyone, almost 100 percent across the board for our women's team, exhibited increased fitness and performance. Great indicator going into the conference meet. We seem to be at our best at just the right time."

The day started with the women's 4x100 meter relay lead off by Kimbra Dunning followed by Imani Bryant. Sage Davis had the third leg and handed off to McKenzie Williamson with the anchor.

"They were able to improve by almost a full second over last week," Meyer said.

The quartet competed in the 100 meter Dash with each improving their times over last weekend. Dunning edged out her best time at 12.89 and McKenzie Williamson led all four with a time of 12.60.

Bryant ran a PR in the 200 meter with a time of 26.16 as did Reagan Ruth at 29.29. In the 400 meter Dash, Carley Burt posted a personal best time 1:04.84, placing third in her heat.

"Carley and Rebekah ran their best races of the season," Meyer said. "Carley ran strong through her race."

Justine Glass placed 10th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:44.76 while Allie Potter made a strong improvement over her previous best time and finished second in her heat at 5:05.19.

"Justine ran a strong 1500," Meyer said. "The pace was very fast at 800 just under2:22 and she hung on. Allie had a very good race. She hung back for 800 and progressed her pace for the last 700m to finish second in the heat and run a PR."

Gracie Morse stumbled at the start of the 100m Hurdles but bounced back in the 400m Hurdles. While her time was the best of her career at 16.02, the wind was rated at 2.3 and therefore not eligible for a PR. She did, however, PR the 400 meter hurdles by more than two seconds.

Gracie in the 100m hurdles stumbled over the first hurdle but recovered amazingly well and accelerated through the field and ran a decent time," Meyer said. "In the 400m hurdles she came back and ran a very good race. She ran a very strong last two hurdles and closed hard to finish second in the heat from fifth."

The men completed the season with six in the 5000 meter run Saturday.

"In the men's 5k race Eric Mitchell ran another great race going sub 15:00," Meyer said. "He ran a great last mile catching several guys. Eammon [O'Bryant] and Jonathan [Boyd] ran strong as well working their way back through the pack. They all achieved PRs this spring. They have set themselves up for a possible special cross country season."

Mitchell finished second overall with a personal best time of 14:57.51. O'Bryant (15:25.51) was fifth while Boyd was seventh overall at 15:31.12.

The women will spend the next two weeks in preparation for the Southern Conference Championships to be hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.

MOCS POST PERSONAL RECORDS ACROSS THE BOARD FRIDAY NIGHT

AUBURN, Ala. --- If the Mocs were competing, they were setting personal bests Friday night on Day One of the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn University.

Kimbra Dunning out jumped her previous best, placing 12th in the long jump with a distance of 5.55 meters.

Faith Brown set a PR earlier this season in the 3000 meter Steeplechase at the UAB Spring Invite. In just her third-ever attempt at the event, she improved once more with a time of 12:08.61, just edging out her previous best time.

The women's 5000 meter saw both Lesley Green and Emma Russum in the Invitational, a race for the top entered runners at the Invitational. Green finished 12th with a time of 12:25.62, beating out her PR by just more than a second while Russum's time of 17:32.30 was a 15-second improvement.

Aaron Isbell continues to show great strides in the long races. He placed sixth overall Friday in the men's 5000 meter Invitational with a time of 14:34.62, shaving more than 20 seconds off the time he recorded at the UAB Spring Invite.

QUOTABLES FROM THE HEAD COACH
On the team's overall performance on Day One
"We had a great day here on the first day. We could not be more pleased of the kids first day down here. They competed against the best D1 schools in our region and had outstanding results. These kids just are amazing how each and every week they just get better and better."

On Kimbra Dunning's PR in the long jump
"Kim started the day off in the long jump and set the tone for the rest of the team. She got progressively more aggressive with each jump and on her last jump hit everything perfect for an 18 plus foot jump her best-ever and 12th overall."

On Faith Brown's PR in the 3000m Steeplechase
"Faith went next in the steeple and she ran her best time. She stayed patient and jumped the barriers best to date."

On Lesley Green and Emma Russum running the 5000 meter Invite (fastest heat)
"Lesley and Emma were next in the Invite Women's 5k. They keep the streak alive both running more personal best races. Both were very deliberate in their pacing. Building momentum through the race."

On Aaron Isbell in the men's 5000 meter invite (fastest heat)
"Aaron running as a freshman in the men's Invite 5k was not going to be outdone by his teammates and ran steady 70 second splits. He closed hard with a 4:34 last 1600 and like the women he ran a huge PR and an outstanding sixth overall."
