ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
GREENSBORO, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs saved their best for last. The group shot 2-under 286 over the final 18 holes of the Southern Conference Championships on the Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Mocs finished fifth with a 5-over tally of 869.
The 286 final round is the team's lowest score in the event since 2014's round two 284. The final score of 869 is the best since the winning total of 3-under 861 in 2012. It was led throughout by sophomore
Paul Conroy.
The Irishman ended his 54 holes with 3-under 69 today shooting par or better all three days. His 7-under 209 placed him in fourth and was the best individual total since All-American Chris Robb's 8 under finishing as runner up in 2014.
Conroy was supported today by
Leon Bader's 1-under 71. That was one better than
Alex Cobb's level-par 72 with
Connor Nolan and
Braedon Wear both finishing with 74s.
Wear, Cobb and Bader all matched with 220 totals behind Conroy's 209. Nolan came in at 229.
ETSU (825) ran away with the team win by 19 shots over UNCG (844) in second. Furman (857) was third ahead of Western Carolina (861) in fourth and the Mocs in fifth. Wofford was sixth at 873 followed by Mercer (887) and Samford (894).
The Bucs 19-stroke win is the largest since Chattanooga's 19-shot triumph in 2012. It was led by this year's medalist Remi Chartier at 18 under. He won by eight over UNCG's Nick Lyerly at 206. That was the largest individual in since former Chattanooga Moc and current PGA TOUR pro Stephan Jaeger's record-tying individual win by 11 at Daniel Island in 2012. He matched Furman's Brad Faxon finish in 1983.
