CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's track and field team heads to Birmingham, Ala., for the weekend to compete in the 2022 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Samford.

"We are excited to close our season at the SoCon Outdoor Championships," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "Our young ladies have done a great job this season in preparation for this meet. We are the healthiest we have been all season and at just the right time."

Lesley Green will get the Mocs started Saturday morning with the 10,000 meter run final slated for a 9:45 a.m. EDT gun. At the 2021 Championships she earned all-conference honors with a third place finish in the event. She knocked nearly a minute off her time from last season at this year's Flames Invitational with a time of 36:11.2 and has the second-best time in the league this season.

Most of the Saturday events will be prelims. Gracie Morse, ranked 15^th in the SoCon, will compete in the 100m hurdles at 3:15 p.m. Next up for UTC is the 100 meter dash with Imani Bryant, Sage Davis, Kimbra Dunning and McKenzie Williamson. Williamson has the Mocs' top time this season, 12.60, and is the only UTC runner ranked in the league standings.

Morse will be back to the line for the women's 400 meter hurdles at 5:25 p.m. She ranks seventh in the conference standings with a PR of 1:06.52 at the War Eagle Invitational.

Also toeing the line for a second time Saturday will be Bryant in the women's 200 meter dash. She posted a PR at the War Eagle Invitational in the regular season finale and is ranked among the SoCon's top 25.

Faith Brown and Morgan Ouellette will close out the day with the final of the women's 3000 meter Steeplechase set for a 6:40 p.m. start. Brown finished fourth at the SoCon Championships last season and cut nearly 14 seconds off her previous top time at the War Eagle Invitational two weeks ago. Brown ranks seventh in the SoCon standings and Ouellette is 12^th.

"Most everyone on the team has set PRs this spring and are running the best times of their lives right now," Meyer said. "We have girls ranked in the 100, 200 and 400m dashes; we have girls ranked in the top 10 in the 1500, steeplechase, three in the 5000 and 1 in the 10,000m runs. We have rankings in the 100m and 400m hurdles plus in the long jump as well."

Sunday's events begin with the 4x100 meter run at 2:10 p.m. The final for the 5000 meter run is set for a 5:05 p.m. start with the 4x400 meter relay closing out the meet at 5:40 p.m.

The Mocs will place five runners in the 5000m run. Justine Glass is ranked sixth in the SoCon standings with a PR of 17:18.81 set at the Flames Invitational this month. Green is ranked ninth followed by Emma Russum at ninth. Green and Russum, along with Allie Potter have all posted PRs this season. Ashtyn Hagood will be the Mocs' fifth entry into the race.

"Every event we participate in, we are ranked which is a testament to the coaches, Ty Griffin and Mike Gadson and to the dedication of the girls," Meyer said. "We have a good chance to improve upon our point total from last year."

Should the Mocs advance, finals for the 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles and 400m hurldes will run throughout the day on Sunday.

"The weather looks great for running and our kids have had a good week of work getting rested and prepared for this championship," Meyer said. "This will be the last meet for seniors, Justine Glass, Sage Davis and McKenzie Williamson. All three have been wonderful for our program and more importantly for this university. We certainly will be sad to see them leave."
