Softball Hosts Mercer in Final Home Series

Chattanooga will honor Gracey Kruse and Hannah Wood in Saturday’s senior day pregame ceremonies

CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs' softball team looks to get back into the win column this weekend in its friendly confines of Frost Stadium. The Mocs host the Mercer Bears in the penultimate regular season Southern Conference series Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1. First pitch for a Saturday doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.

The Mocs are 21-23 overall and 5-7 in the Southern Conference this season. Mercer enters the weekend at 13-34 overall and 5-10 in the league.

SENIOR SENDOFF
Prior to Saturday's game vs. Mercer, Chattanooga will recognize Hannah Wood and Gracey Kruse, two seniors who have been with the program since 2019. Wood, a pitcher who has made more than 20 starts over the last two seasons has had the best year of her career, posting a 2.84 ERA to date. Kruse, the Mocs' starting centerfielder will make her 120th career start this weekend. She is also having the best year of her career with the most hits (28) and highest slugging percentage (.430) in her four-year tenure with UTC.

CHATTANOOGA'S SEASON TO DATE
Chattanooga enters the weekend 21-23 and 5-7 in Southern Conference action. The Mocs were swept in their last two SoCon series, at UNCG and at Samford. This weekend, against 5-10 Mercer, the Mocs look to break an eight-game losing skid. The team is hitting .268 led by Emily Coltharp (.359) and Reagan Armour (.313) this season. In league action, Acelynn Sellers leads the squad with a .350 batting average. Kailey Snell (.341), Armour (.333) and Coltharp (.326) are all also hitting above the .300 clip. In the circle, the team holds a 3.42 ERA with Brooke Parrott pacing the staff at 2.73. She has a 9-6 record with six complete games in just over 100 innings of work.

GOING… GOING… GONE!
UTC has belted 37 home runs this season, led by eight from Kaili Phillips and Olivia Lipari. Chattanooga's 37 homers have come from ten different players with six Mocs posting three or more this season. 16 of their 37 homers have come in the third or fourth inning (43%).

SERIES HISTORY
Chattanooga leads the all-time series 40-29 and is 21-6 at home against Mercer.
