BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---
Lesley Green got the Chattanooga Mocs off to a strong start Saturday earning her second straight all-conference finish.
Gracie Morse named to All-Freshman Team and advances to Day Two of the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Â
Green finished third for the second straight year in the 10,000 meter run to earn all-conference honors in the race. She covered the distance in a time of 37:08.22.
Emma Russum was fifth for the Mocs in the race with a time of 38:40.05. The duo combined to score 10 points for the Mocs.
Â
"We had a good first day," Mocs head coach
Andy Meyer said. "As they have all season long the 10k girls ran a very smart race. They held off the torrid early pace and slowly worked their way through the field to finish third and fifth."
Â
Green repeated her all-conference performance from last year and Emma moved up three spots.
Â
Gracie Morse had a good first day of championships. She named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in the long jump, her first competition of her collegiate career. She posted a distance of 5.14 meters in the first heat.
Â
She then went on to post a PR time of 14.99 in the 100 meter hurdles and just missed qualifying for the finals by one spot. She didn't let that happen in the 400 meter hurdles, however. Morse pushed the pace, finishing third in her heat and fifth overall to earn a spot in the Sunday final.
Â
"She did all of that off of, basically, three weeks of training due to various injuries hampering her all season," Meyer said.
Â
In the 100 meter run all four runners posted sub-13.00 times.
Kimbra Dunning set a PR with a time of 12.75 and
Sage Davis wasn't far off her top time at 12.72.
Imani Bryant ran a 12.94 and
McKenzie Williamson fought a tough wind in the first heat, finishing with a time of 12.98 (-2.9).
Â
"All of our 100 meter runners were in the 12s for the first time this season," Meyer said. "Kim had a great day, placing sixth in the long jump and breaking 18-foot."
Â
Dunning posted a distance of 5.50 meters in the long jump and scored for the Mocs with a sixth place finish. Bryant suffered a slight injury at the end of the 100 meter, but pushed through for the 200 meter and was just hundredths of a second off her PR with a time of 26.89.
Â
Faith Brown and
Morgan Ouellette closed out the day with the 3000 meter Steeplechase.
Â
"Faith and Morgan raced well in the steeple," Meyer said. "Morgan made a 20-plus second jump."
Â
She improved her time in her second Steeplechase finishing at 13:03.74. Brown was 12
th with a time of 12:28.16.
Â
"We are pleased with our first day," Meyer said. "Tomorrow we are hoping for more of the same."
Â
Action will get started at 2:10 p.m. Eastern time at Cameron Bean Track with the 4x100 meter relay. Other competition for the day will be the 400 meter hurdle finals, the 5000 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay.
